2012 Australian 3 Days - Good Friday Events

Good Friday is the first day of the Easter Carnival of events and there are a couple of events to choose from to find your orienteering 'legs' before the main event starts.

The events of Good Friday are traditionally held in an urban sprint environment. However, with a lack of such areas near to the event location, the sprint events will be held in a bush setting. The map scale will be 1:5,000 and so features will appear larger than usual. This enables competitors to read their map whilst running fast.

To participate, you will need to pre-enter one of the events on offer, as no 'enter on the day' is available on this day.

                              Elite Prologue

For those entering M/W 21E or M/W17-20E classes, the Prologue event forms part of their Australian 3 Day (A3D) total time. Non attendance will result in an overall  'dnf' result for the A3D. Note that an entrant on the elite course is eligible to be nominated as a leg of the family teams event, described below.

                              Public Prologue

Three courses are offered in this event. Long, Medium and Short. These courses equate to the Men21E course, the Women21E course and an 'easy' standard navigation course. Competitors may enter any one of the three courses.

The Public Prologue will run in conjunction with the Family Relay. Groups of three runners, one for each course will start at the same time. Competitors will go through the standard pre- start procedure, with the start interval being 1 minute.

                              Family Relay

If you're are part of an extended family you may wish to enter the family relay. All official teams compete in both the outright and handicap divisions of the relay. The competition for outright winning family relay team has been hard fought since it's inception.

The courses are the same as those outlined for the Public Prologue  above. The legs are run concurrently with the team starting together. Some teams will only start with one or two runners as other family member/s may have already competed in the Elite Prologue. When nominating which person is running which course, remember that all three courses must be completed for the result to be official. The sum of the times of the three family members forms the result for each team.

The handicap division of the family relay involves the application of age and gender factors being applied to the total time of the team.

Please nominate your family team and the course each member will run, on the entry form.

For a team in the Family Relay event to be official, one member of the family must be directly related to each of the other two team members in one of the following categories: spouse or defacto spouse, parent, child, brother, sister, grandparent, grandchild, in laws (parent, brother, sister), adopted child, nephew or niece.

Prizes will be presented to the winning team of each division at the A3D presentation ceremony following the Day 3 event.
