2012 Australian 3 Day Championships - World Ranking Event Bulletin 1
Event: Day Three Australian 3 Day Championships
Date: Monday 9th April 2012
Venue: Dalveen, north of Stanthorpe, Queensland
Type of Competition: Individual relay length distance race
Classes Offered: W21E, M21E
Map and Terrain: The map will be at a scale of 1:10,000. It has been created by joining the map used for the 2000 Asia Pacific Championships 'Brooklands', and the map used for the 1991 Australian Relay Championships 'Cherry Gully', together, and then updating the older map. Copies of the maps will be available for viewing at the event, at Registration. The terrain is typical of this part of the northern Granite Belt, scattered granite outcrops under a light forest cover. Generally undulating, but with a few short steep sections. The western part of the map is grazed by cattle, but the eastern half has not been grazed for six years. Running is fast in all areas, with the exception of the south east section of the map which has suffered a lot of 'dead fall' of old wattle trees, during storms.
General Map of Region: See event website for general map of the region. The map is 8km north of Dalveen and is on the eastern side of the 'Old Warwick Road'.
Area Embargoes: The land included on maps 'Brooklands' 1:10,000 and 'Cherry Gully'.
Entries: Enter online via the 2012 Australian Easter Carnival website. Entry fees are listed on the web site. Normal entries close at mid-night on 2nd March 2012. Late entries will be accepted until mid-night 16th March.
Accommodation and Travel: See website for options.
Food: Catering will be provided at the event, but competitors are reminded that this is a bush location and those with specific needs should ensure that they self cater accordingly.
Climate: Having an elevation of around 800metres, the day temperatures should range from 20 to 23 degrees C.
Officials: The event is being organised by Orienteering Queensland on behalf of Orienteering Australia. The key officials are:
- Course Planner: Brenton Gray
- Orienteering Australia Controller and IOF Event Adviser: Eric Andrews
